What people don't realise is that paying that bit extra also has other unseen consequences, the pilots! The lower paid pilot's work for the budget airlines, and we all know you get what you paid for, lower pay = less experienced or less happy.

It was definetly one of the factors in that commuter jet crash in the US. The pilot's where tired and underpaid and F'd up killing everyone. The FO was on $16,000 US P.A [shocked] And that is the standard rate! She worked in a coffee shop as a second job to pay the bills, and slept in the crew lounge after commuting 6 hours to work as she could only afford to live with her parents!

And this is normal for FO's in budget carriers in the US
