When I flew about 4 months ago I was in total agony with my back (double-hernia on my spine - lower back) - so I was wearing my back brace. At the security screening checkpoint they made me take it off, then stand about for almost 20mins whilst they scanned it, swabbed it and checked my bags. Without my brace on I was almost screaming in pain and unable to stand. Lovely.
