The best and most effective way to quit smoking is to want to.
This.

I did the same as most people and made a few half-hearted attempts to quit, but then i decided one day that enough was enough (the doctor saying i had the lungs of a 45 year old at age 19 will **** you up!). Destroy all cigarettes and lighters that you have. Bin them. Also, try and avoid the pub for a few weeks.

You're gonna feel like **** for a while but that's normal. After a few weeks it will start getting easier, but don't ever be temted to have 'just the one'.

Get some films or games to keep you entertained for a couple of weekends, so you aren't tempted to go out.

You will probably put on weight, i went from 10 stone to 14 stone within a year.

You will start getting your sense of taste back after a while. Some foods will start tasting amazing and you will also go off other stuff you used to like.

Save the money you used to spend on cigarettes. Before you know it you can buy yourself something and realise how much money you were wasting. I started buying a lot of electronics and was amazed how much i had been wasting on destroying my health!
