I don't understand what benefit is there in her not letting you buy a new phone within' contract? Wouldn't Verizon gain from selling you a phone and get the extra mark-up from that new phone?

A few weeks ago I changed my iphone from Vodafone to Telstra. The this crappy little mall stand Vodafone store said I was not able unlock my iphone from the Vodafone network. I knew this was complete and utter BS, since I was out of contract. Vodafone's policy is that you can unlock after this period. The good news was that I went home and phoned the store I bought the phone from, they directed me to the website to unlock the phone for $25. So not all was lost doing it myself, since the charge is $50 if you don't do it online yourself.
I just don't get why the store lied or didn't know. It doesn't look like the store does much business. lol. The kid that served me was a drop-kick retard and had to phone his boss.
