Isnt Singapoore part of the "west" (in non geographical terms)? At least it is in my understanding. Maybe he's a chinese spy down there.

His mom and dad (dad for sure) are chinese, his dad tells him the truth about how wonderful china is and how everything else is lies. Or somesuch.
