Make sure to go to the piers, check out Coit Tower, Palace of Fine Arts, and Golden Gate park. There are tons of excellent restaurants all over the city and can't recommend just exploring the whole city enough, it is very dynamic and there a lots of neat little places scattered throughout. On your way down to LA, if you drive, make sure to stop in Carmel which is very scenic and a nice little town right by the ocean.
