Maybe it's just like everyone else's holiday. I know I usually leave something behind, then remember it halfway back home while in the car or on the plane.

Maybe Buzz was sitting in the capsule as they where re-entering the atmosphere.

Buzz "Lance, did you remember to pack our toothbrush's?"
Lance "yes Buzz"

Buzz "Did you remember to look under the bed?"
Lance "Yes, and I checked the bathroom"

Buzz "Did you pack the moonrock for the dutch?"
Lance "Oh crap..."
