It is strange how quickly we go from being carefree about nudity to being freaked out by it. I am pretty sure it is not something innate, since many tribal people have no problems being nude.

It's all about brainwashing. Take for example the US: real graphic violence is shown without a second thought and barely gets a mention, but help us all should there be a butt or female nipple and the whole US grinds down to a halt and religious people scream bloody murder, and there will be lawsuits up to millions USD [rofl]

In, for example, Finland and Sweden, where saunas are very common, nudity is no big deal for anyone. There are often fully nude people in some tv shows any time of the day and the program will at most be K-15 (if the pubic areas are shown explicitly), but more often K-13 (must be 13 or over). However, real graphic violence is rarely shown during the day. That's at least how I think it should be: nudity is absolutely normal, while getting brains blown out certainly isn't.

Someone should make a study about that:

Is the amount of violence tolerated in direct relation to the amount of religious people in a given country?
Is the amount of nudity tolerated in inverse relation to the amount of religious people in a given country?

Somehow I've always felt those two hypothesises are not far from the truth... almost every religion seems to be extremely violent, and also very conservative about sexual matters.

Finland, Sweden, Russia, etc = mostly atheists or indifferent about religion, nudity is just normal life
US, Islamic countries, Arab countries = highly religious and nudity is a huge no-no

However, South American countries seem to make a curious exception for this. They are very religious, but at the same time they have nude beaches and girls wearing very skimpy bikinis
