We have two different civil cases...Good Samaritan laws protect those who attempt to help (they can vary by state) and also, there is no duty to rescue either in the US.
while there may be no duty to rescue (yeah i aint jumping into a flodded river to save you), i do believe there are failure to render aid laws...at least where i live.

i.e. can't watch someone wreck their car into a pole out in the middle of nowhere and just drive off an leave them.

It used to be like what FAKE is saying here in the states...save someone from choking and break a rib in doing so, they could sue. Glad they fixed this one.
