How to digitalize your VHS videos?
My dad has loads of old holiday tapes, or from birthdays, weddings and whatnot.
The tapes seem to get old though, as the video quality gets worse and worse. Now he wants to copy them onto HDD or DVD. He doesnt have an "all in one" player or DVD recorders and such. Just a (relatively new) computer with the regular in/out connectors.
So, Is there a way to connect a camcorder or an old video player to the computer somehow, and copy the videos to HDD? If possible without buying expensive hardware/software. Wie already tried to connect the camcorder via Firewire to the PC, but somehow the Windows Movie Maker doesnt recognize it. It says "no compatible video signal blabla..."
I really have never done any research on this and have no idea. So please excuse the (possible) stupid question.
Thanks for any help!
Edit: The computer has Vista Ultimate 32bit installed.
