Doesn't matter if the device was abused or not. If a device could explode from even an accidental drop, then it's still a problem with the device.
I'll wait until they figure out exactly what happened, but I doubt it was accidental droppage causing it.

He said: ''I threw it out of the back door and within 30 seconds it exploded. It went 10ft in the air.'' The dude chucked it out the back door.

Could be defective batteries, but it doesn't seem to be all that common. One person's ipod burnt a hole in a pair of pants, and the other person's went up like a firecracker.
