What is the benefit of VBR over CBR? I usually rip my CD's at 320 CBR...

There is very little difference between 320kbps and V0 (highest bit rate VBR) if need be the bitrate can reach 320kbps but usually hovers around 256-280kbps. You would be hard pressed to notice a difference. Since VBR is variable, you can save on space with pretty much identical performance.
