I also don't understand the stink about the virtual keyboard. Now, don't get me wrong - when I didn't have an iPhone myself, I thought it was a terrible idea, and the few times I used someone else's I really didn't like it. As a matter of fact I was about to get the G1 instead, because of the keyboard.

Yet when you actually get the hang of it (takes 2-3 days of using it, at most), you can type REALLY fast... much faster than a hardware keyboard will allow you... with very reasonable accuracy.
Personally I disagree. I own a iPod Touch, a Peek Pronto and regularly use a Samsung WM device for work. I'd take a physical keyboard over the touch keypad on the iPhone. I guess these things can be subjective or just work better for some than others.
