You can get 15.4" notebooks with the 9800M GS for $700 less Or even ones based on the new HD4 series radeons.

Hell you can get a 14.1" with an HD4650 and 2.66ghz dual core heh.

Ok so the resolution is lower but much more portable and far more horsepower.

Apple are packing an old set of hardware into a huge case and charging a premium for it.

2 gigs of ram in the apple is a joke.
Smaller screen, lower resolution, also a 16:9 resolution. Far more horsepower? I think you mean marginally more, I assume you are focusing on the GPU or something?

I have had 2GB of RAM in mine for many months now and I have only felt the desire to upgrade it once and that was when I had a complex Pro Tools session open on it. When I feel it is necessary to double the RAM I will gladly pay the $60 for the two 2GB sticks.

Again, you are getting carried away with your comparison, the MBP is only marginally wider but it is thinner, shorter and the weight is identical. It is smaller than the computer you listed on two of the three dimensions you listed and only less than an inch wider, you also lose over an inch on the screen with the Asus. Where does this "huge" come from? Also, "much more portable"? Not really at all. [rofl]

All they are missing now is eSATA capabilities to make high demand mobile usage (like on-the-fly video editing) easier. The eSATA feature is excellent on all mid/high end toshiba and HP PC models, and helps eliminate the notebook's last big limitation.
I have yet to run across a client that uses anything other than FW400/800 or USB 2.0 but if it was necessary for $15 you can add one to any laptop with an ExpressCard slot. I also always run projects off an internal drive.
