As imperfect creations weather via creationism, evolution or whatever you believe, we need a sense of guidelines to keep our moral compasses that enables use to live like humans and not animals. How far you take the depends on your beliefs and your faith, some take it more extreme then others, as is the case with your girlfriend. I don't mind the more strugent Baptist and Mormon beliefs, but I sure as hell don't want them bashing on my door telling me my path is wrong pointing the finger at me screaming "Sinner" cause im gonna point my finger right back and say "Takes one to know one"

God, Allah, Buddah, Muhammahad whatever or whomever your faith is based on is meant for immature and sinful children *us* to believe and follow guidelines to live peacefully with eachother. The free will given to us however determines wether or not we follow those guidelines. If there is no ultimate good of which to base and run our society on, then everything is justifable. *Cough* Hitler would be an example of this.
I agree that religion keeps some people sane by giving them something to live for. Without it, there would undoubtedly be more chaos in the world. While some people live by religion, I'm going to go as far as saying that I don't need religion, and that anybody who tries to tell me that I'm not a good person because of that can go fck themselves.

While society needs a sort of model to live peacefully, that model does not have to be a religion or religion(s). I'm not religious. Nobody in my family is religious. A lot of my friends aren't religious. Are we all Hitlers because of that? No.

What scares me about religion is how people can be locked into it and its views. Just like thegecko's gf.
