That's just not true. I suspect that you are misunderstanding what happened on Pentecost in the Bible.

In the Bible, prayer is often referred to as a kind of weapon for people to use in this world. Now if you think of normal pray as a bomb, think of speaking in tongues as a laser guided missile.
I know some people think of Wikipedia as not the most accurate source of information, but I'm kind of busy today and I don't have time to go digging around so a quote from Wiki will have to do I'm afraid:

"The apostles, along with other of Jesus's followers meet and elect Matthias to replace Judas as a member of The Twelve. On Pentecost, the Holy Spirit descends on them—the apostles hear a great wind and witness "tongues of flames" descending on them, paralleling Luke 3:16-17. Thereafter, the apostles have the miraculous power to "Speak in tongues" and when they address a crowd, each member of the crowd hears their speech in his own native language."

I'm pretty sure that sums up what I was trying to get across, but it's very likely that you have a much better understanding that I do. Perhaps you could educate me?

*sorry to the OP for the slight derail of his thread
