IIRC, most prisoners aren't isolated from the world. Many still get TV and printed news, no?

Yeah but it would still be brutal. Imagine if you were in prison in 1988 and just got out now. You would have no idea how to use half of the technology in the world. Not to defend the sentence length, I'm just saying that things would be a lot different in 20 years, totally unrelated to the thread subject.
