...was sentenced to serve 25 life sentences to run concurrently. The judge said the minimum term the 56-year-old rapist should serve in jail should be 19½ years. Once again I cannot speak for the British legal system but in the states there is a method we follow.
The chance of him being paroled is very unlikely after 19 years. In the corrections system in my state (MI) in order to be eligible for parole many things are reviewed
Public safety risk
Behavior in prison
Mental Health
That's just a few things that determine the eligibility of parole. Considering that he was a child rapist he will not received well in prison as others have said but that doesn't necessarily matter in some instances. Before he is placed into a prison an assessment will be done similar to the one that would be done to determine if he's eligable for parole. They will see what risks he may cause, what risks he may have in prison (from other prisoners), and his escape risk. The chances of him being placed in a low security prison (LVL I-III) is highly unlikely because of the charges that he has and the sentance that he carries.
In this case he would probably be placed in a level IV prison to start which would grant him very little freedom and he would be locked down in his cell for probably 23 hours a day which limits his exposure to other prisoners.
Also, this also depends what type of cell block he is placed into. If he is placed into general population he will spend his one hour of recreation out with other prisoners and if he somehow manages to get a work detail that would also grant him time outside of his cell.
If he is placed in segregation (doubtful) he will have almost no exposure to other inmates even when on rec.
If he is placed into protective custody (this is where I think he will start) he will spend more time with other prisoners because it's possible his cell with be double bunked.
In reality it's hard to say where he will be placed because it also depends on his prior offenses as well.
I could go on for hours about this... but im far too lazy to do so lol...
