I've had problems with teeth on the right side of my mouth for a while now, one of my mollars(sp?) on the bottom was heavily filled and I started getting REALLY bad pain when eating, shooting so it felt like the top 2 teeth, the pain would come on after I'd finished eating and last for 10 mins or so.

So the dentist had a look, couldn't see anything wrong with the top ones, I have since assumed it's this heavily filled one.

The tooth is now sore when I push it, but not heat/cold sensitive, which leads me to think it's dead??

Went back today and he took the filling out and put a dressing on it, he mentioned it might be dead but I'm not 100% sure.

Options are root canal treatment, possible problems in future
Or take it out, big gap in my teeth, problems chewing?
Root canal!? If you needed a root canal, you'd know about it, the pain wouldn't disappear after 10 mins after eating and you wouldn't have to touch it to make it feel sore. It would be constant aching pain that feels like it never ends.
