I wasnt even sure i had an amplifier. How would i figure out if or how to do something about a bad transistor?

To use speakers, you have to have an amplifier [yes] I would suggest you either ask a buddy who knows about this stuff see if he or she thinks the amp is bad too... if so, try another or simply buy a new one.
