Ok, this is driving me insane... for the past two nights I've spent at least a total of six hours, maybe more trying to find the perfect San Diego hotel for the end of May and I'm just lost! I'm losing a lot of sleep over this and in fact tonight I'm only getting 2 hours of sleep before a 12 hour work day because I've been determined to finish my planning tonight, which I didn't! [cursing] I'm looking for a pretty nice hotel with a max price of about $230 - $270 per night before tax. I really would love something with lots and lots of history or with amazing city or ocean views. I love city views as long as I'm on like the 20th floor, so ocean isn't a must for me. It's just a single over night stay between like May 28th and the 31st. I've been pricing check in on the 29th and check out on the 30th because I'm not sure if weekend rates would be higher. I don't mind being in the city if the area seems nice and as long as it's "kind of" close to Sea World and the Zoo since those are the two things I'm going to do while in San Diego. I don't want a hotel that lists it's self as San Diego but is 20 minutes outside the city or something. I've been really looking at the US Grant and was just about set on that hotel (really nice, huge history, price worked) but I keep hearing that it's in a "not so great" part of town. I don't mind a slightly older part of town since we're not going bar hoping or anything and probably won't actually leave the hotel anytime that night but I don't want homeless passing by the hotel and stuff like that. Some reviews make it sound like it's just the older area of town that's being turned around right now and others make it sound like homeless are all over that area. Has anyone been to the Gaslamp District of San Diego? I've also been looking at some others such as Ivy Hotel and they're very modern and upscale but they also are going for the "sexy" hotel image that seems to be popular now. I really don't want to book a hotel that has an open shower area or themed towards honeymooning couples and stuff like that. I'm going with a really good friend, but I know anything like that would just weird her out too much and wonder if I was up to something, lol. Ivy looked amazing but has their "infamous" glass wall bathrooms, in ALL guest rooms from my understanding. [cursing] Why?! Anyway, please someone help by either reassuring me that the US Grant is in a good area and the reviews are just from super uptight people that want red carpets all over the place to walk on or finding me a really unique upscale hotel that can accommodate me and a friend of the opposite sex. (I've already looked at the Marriott and Hilton and W hotel and they're priced about the same or MORE for a more "boring" business atmosphere. The W seems the least business styled out of them but I kind of want a boutique hotel if I'm paying that kind of money for one night)
