I am also a stickler for Audis but I do admit Hondas have always interested me! Amazing how much you Canadians + Americans (some) care so much about fuel efficiency. Its stupidly cheap for fuel over there... and almost regardless of size you don't have such hefty tax on gas guzzlers.
We care about gas prices because we get no where near the average fuel economy of European nations.

Oh, also, I am sure that people in the UK don't drive as much as the average person here in America. From May to May I drove 20,000 miles. That was mostly to work, school, and around town. Maybe 1,500 miles of that was for vacations. Thats roughly $2,500 for the year getting 23mpg average.

For someone in the UK, and most of Europe I am going to take this number down to 10,000 miles. At $6.30/gal average for the year getting 30mpg (which I am sure is much more for most people) turns out to be $400 cheaper for this person to putt around then me.

Then you can only find a Diesel in trucks and other then that there are currently only 3 other models in the US that offer Diesel and it has been like this for some time. Though, it seems like Jeep might tap into the Diesel market here. They tested a Liberty to see how it sold with a diesel and it did better then what they thought. Diesel isn't big around here because people think that they are loud, dirty, poor economy, no power, and expensive, but that isn't so the case.
