The technical features quoted on the us nokia homepage are identical to the european. why shouldnt it support 3g? Sometimes people travel and might end up in a country with 3g....

That's what it says here:
But the N95 has a similar problem as the iPhone when it comes to data; in the USA, it is restricted to a slow EDGE connection.
