The subforums may still be there but their placement, text size, etc. is mildly annoying.

I suspect that's pretty much why people aren't happy with how they've turned out and I don't think there's an easy/quick way to fix that. There might be but it's out of my knowledge limits to figure it out when I look at the vB control panel! Fortunately we have better people than myself to look at this...
