Despite being overweight and middle-aged!? As if this were unusual for opera singers![rofl] He won a standing ovation from an audience and panel who have probably never seen Turandot before, so I wouldn't think it would take much to impress. I'm happy the guy got his 15 minutes, and as I said he wasn't bad considering his background, but as to whether he will have any future in operatic repertoire I think a heathy dose of reality is in order. Unlike pop-singers, opera requires years of dedication and studying to master technique. If he chooses to take this route then I wish him the best, but if he thinks winning a television talent contest will instantly thrust him on the path to fame and success on the concert circuit then he's in for a rude awakening.
