Of course, this isn't to justify the near-hysterical reporting of ITV on Lewis - you'd think he was the Second Coming by some of their comments. I can only hope in rains like mad at Silverstone just so they can request Hamilton to walk on water...
I have to agree that I think their coverage is a bit OTT. But you have to remember he is a huge talent and is the most likely British driver to win the championship since Hill back in 96 so the media are gonna be all over him.

I have to say in terms of pure speed I still rank Alonso above him but Lewis has been more controlled and consistent. Just like Spain Alonso went for broke into the first corner and got it wrong. He had more fuel and looked like being as fast if not fractionally faster than Lewis. You have to say that in a straight fight Alonso probably would have overtaken him in the first round of pit stops and quite possibly gone on to win. The fact is he didn't.

Lewis is a fantastic talent and whilst at the moment I don't think he's quite as fast as Alonso at the moment, he's far more composed and that's why he's quite rightly leading the championship. The points system rewards consistent high results.

Is the car a factor? Of course it is, it would be foolish to think otherwise. The McLaren is on fire but at the end of the day the driver drives the car, not the other way round.
