You're all wrong... Cisco, Extreme, Foundry, Force 10, Juniper... they all have their place in a heterogeneous network environment. You can go on and on until you're blue in the face, but that's the "fact." Solely relying on one vendor is asking for trouble. Or you could be in an environment like mine at work, where everything has to be certified by the government before it can even be considered for use. Well, Foundry, Extreme and Force 10 all have issues with that. That's why you rarely see them in govt data centers. So, don't be so quick to jump onto one vendor's ship and declare them the best, because a true network professional will understand how to make the best components from all companies inter-operate seamlessly. As for my router? A Cisco 2811. Here's an old pic of before it got racked... I've got a 24U Hubbell rack in my server room full of current Cisco equipment... not older stuff pieced together to practice for certifications on. However, I'm taking my 3750G-24TS switch out of my core (bye-bye 2+ years uptime! ) and replacing it with one of Linksys' 24port managed L3 w/ PoE switches. First off, they're very good switches and have gotten excellent reviews and 2nd, I can't justify a $6000 switch for even my home datacenter. As soon as we move into our offices, the 3750 will be put to use there. The nice thing about the SRW2024P is that it supports up to 12 15.4W Power over Ethernet ports, so when I move to IP Telephony I won't have to plug each phone into the wall... only the network. Plus the Linksys WAP-N I'm eyeing up supports PoE as well, so one less power cord for it, too.
