I don't think pursuing a career (as in specializing in something) is a bad thing unless it takes over a persons life. There is no shame in pursuing a career or profession as a doctor, a shepherd, an engineer, a gardener, a farmer, a merchant, a welder... you name it, Allah (SWT) has given us various abilities and talents and various means to live so let's celebrate the favours and not get carried away (as we can easily do with anything on this world, including words).
