This is really about the ulama as Su who get paid hundreds of thousands of pounds a year to certify 'Islamic' finance deals for the big banks. I am not sure why you refer to them as puritanical...Puritans historically were liberal on riba and strict on clothing style.

We know of Murabatun's puritanical stance and do find them commendable but the reality is people aren't going to change overnight and some sort of workable solution is needed to deal with the usary dominated economic model. so islamic banking system should not be critisciesed for various shortcomming in its infancy.
