The Ummah nowadays is starting to suspect their Imams?

why not?

they are also human and can err or be lead to temptation by their nafs and shaitaan. they are not masoom (pure and innocent).

if an imam (or anyone else for that matter) does something wrong (especially if it affects other people), then appropriate action MUST be taken.
