is there a difference?
i would like to know why no political support for JI 'now'

Yes my brother, there is a major difference.

Jamaat-e-Islami started out with the call for Muslims to take up the collective cause of establishing the rule of Allah (SWT) and that it cannot only be done through following the Sunnah (see his Khutbaat in the 1940’s) where a young Maulana Maududi (RA) is at his firey best.

His call is for Muslims to return to Islam and this is the time period where young Ulamah like Shaykh (Maulana) Manzoor Naumani (RA) & Shaykh (Maulana) Abdul-Hasan Ali Nadwi (RA) also started to galvanise towards him.

He opposed the creation of Pakistan because he considered establishment of Allah (SWT)'s rule to be foremost and considered Muslim league to be composed of Muslims who were not fully practising.

After the creation of Pakistan, Jamaa-e-Islami (Pakistan) thought that they can implement Shariah through political process.

Then came the 1950’s when Jamaa-e-Islami (Pakistan) switched courses and joined politics and started campaigning and this is the time when many people left and criticised the Jamaat. This is the darkest hour for Jamaat as most of its vocal supporters and admirers left.

We are discussing this matter on a hardcore Deobandi forum and YET I must say that Jamaat-e-Islami and Maulana Maududi (RA) served the Deen of Allah (SWT) with distinction specially in revival of Sunnah amongst university going Muslims of our countries and there can be no doubt.
He also made errors in his books and his tone is often very sharp against the Sahaba-e-Kiraam but his and Jamaat-e-Islami'sbiggest blunder is to enter politics for which they are still paying!

Due to his sharp tone I have NEVER been able to like his works and it has taken me years to actually get passed his style of writing and actually read!

I was never part of Jamiat or Jamaat and not a big fan of Maulana Maududi (RA) but there is a difference of night and day between his writings from 1940's and Part 1 of Khilafat-O-Mulookiyaat for which the Deobandees generally castigate him.
