Very informational post brother.
BUT i failed to understand the moral of the story.

Thanks for asking akhi - you know I shall not know whether I have made sense or not unless some one gives the feedback.

Firstly I have to sort out the technical matter raised by brother NNoor but your question can be still answered.

Either Hazrat Abu Bakr (RA) or Hazrat Umar (RA) was having a meal together with his son (RA). They were both eating from the same bowl. The vegetable was gourd. Gourd was beloved Prophet (PBUH)'s favourite vegetable. Young Companion (RA) was avoiding the gourd pieces and soaking his bread in the soup only before putting the morsel in mouth. Father asked him the reason. The son said that he does not like gourd. That is when father got infuriated. I suppose it should be Hazrat Abu Bakr (RA) because I can not imagine the scene if the anger proceeds from Hazrat Umar (RA). But any way the senior Companion (RA) said, "Are you still looking for personal preferences after what Rasoolallah (RA) wants?" This is Islam.

I have presented this deception of personal preferences by taking a detour to modern west because that where we are getting some of our Deen from, na'oodhubillah.

If it makes sense then fine otherwise please do ask further questions.
