Sure, some join because they can't get a better job.

But most join for various other reasons; to make it a career, to save up money for college, or to learn a skill to use after they get back out into civilian life. Such as, vehicle mechanic, military police, medical personal, air traffic controller, etc.

Myself, I was in the U.S. Army and used the G.I. Bill benefits when I got out to attend and graduate from a university with a B.A.

and i bet a large percentage are just perverts and pedophiles who join so they can go and abuse people in foreign lands where they can easily get away with it even if they are caught because the lifes of these foreigners don't have the same value as the life of an american
