It appears "the Scholars of al Azhar" are an organization or group with that title, but not necessarily representative of al Azhar itself. Thus, as a group, they have made a public position regarding Tahir al Qadri and presented evidences to their position. In the defense of Qadri, there appears to be a video of shaykh Usama al Abd, apparently now president of al Azhar, declaring Tahir al Qadri "shaykh al Islam". What is the reality: is Qadri worthy of such a title? Or is he being propped up in the international stage to serve ulterior motives? Is al Azhar as an institution empowered to anoint someone with this title- is al Azhar anymore a credible source regarding the affairs of the Ummah? The REAL Cause of Allah is the resumption of Islam in life, as exemplified in an Islamic state with a pious ruler and Amir ul Mumineen according to the way of the Prophet and khulafaa rashidoon . Through this way can the Dawah to Islam be carried throughout the world as the Prophet (saaw) exemplified. When we know this, then we can examine the actions and words of Tahir al Qadri, al Azhar, and any Islamic groups or personalities or Muslim governments. Is Tahir al Qadri advocating this Cause of Allah: the complete implementation of Allah's Law in an Islamic state defined and defended by Muslims? His reply to the establishment of the khilafah is to call it "nonsense" Does this "shaykh al Islam" address this very important issue as esteemed authentic ulama address this matter? [btw, his claim of authoring 100s of works on hadith appear to be as the Scholars of al Azhar have mentioned, mere "commentaries" on definitive hadith collections]. In contradiction, or dissembling of Qadri's slur regarding the khilafah - which is not a scholar's response to such a vital matter, but a polemic pundit's- here are several ulama today who openly call for khilafah as prophecized in authentic and famous hadith, as respected and esteemed ulama of the past (rhm) have presented, including from Deoband. They present hadith and proof from the consensus of the ulama as well as consensus of the Ummah for the appointment of a single khalifah (khalifatul rasul) to implement Allah's Law. There are many issues which Qadri can be confronted on, but this is one of pivotal importance. And Allah knows best.
