Muslim boy inspired Aseemanand to come clean Times of India Jan,08,2011 Before making his confession,Aseemanand reportedly told the magistrate that he was aware that he could be given the death penalty, but still wanted to confess. He said he had decided to come clean about his involvement in terror plots because a Muslim boy,Kaleem, was arrested, wrongly it now transpires, for the Mecca Masjid blast.Aseemanand said Kaleem,a mobile phone seller who was his co-inmate in Hyderabads Chanchalguda jail, had to spend one-anda-half-years behind bars in connection with the Mecca Masjid blast. He landed up in the same jail for a different offence at the time Aseemanand was lodged there. He reportedly took very good care of the swamy, and the gesture moved Aseemanand so much that he decided to atone by confessing so that the real culprits can be punished and no innocent has to suffer.During my interaction with Kaleem,I learnt that he was previously arrested in the Mecca Masjid case.He helped me a lot and used to bring water, food, etc.I was very moved by his good conduct and my conscience asked me to do prayaschit (penance) by making a confessional statement, he said. The confession shows that the network behind the saffron terror was far strong and motivated, and its reach wider. The confession cannot be used as evidence in other cases of alleged saffron terror as they are being investigated by other agencies, but it can help the probes. It raises serious questions a bout the course of investigation into the 2006 Malegaon blast, considering that the Maharasthra ATS and the CBI have already chargesheeted the Muslim accused
