Why marriage is obligatory? What is the purpose of MARRIAGE. Love leads to SEX and not necessarily MARRIAGE? I shall be grateful for your views with references from THE HOLY QURAN.

Qur’aan is the book of Allah (SWT) and its teachings are perfect without any flaw and Allah (SWT) describes a husband and wife as

[2:187] It is made lawful for you, in the nights of fasts, to have sex with your women. They are apparel for you, and you are apparel for them.


In a single verse Allah (SWT) has defined and detailed the nature of contact between a man and woman.

Mindless sex leaves a person emotionally dissatisfied and it doesn’t matter how physically fulfilling the act may be. While being with a person who cares for you and you can share your point of view with them and they can do the same is the MOST WONDERFUL BLESSING on earth and doesn’t matter if the sex is not as physically fulfilling. A wife who is like a garment (with whom a person can share his thoughts) is one of the greatest blessings a Muslim man can have in this world. While being stuck in an incompatible relationship or no relationship is really a severe test. So marriage is NOT an obligation but a highly emphasised Sunnah of Sayyidina Rasul-ullah and a person who opts to go away from the noble Sunnah will be deprived of goodness. Therefore when picking a marriage partner you should off course look for someone who is (physically) pleasing BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY you should look for someone who is compatible so the verse of the Qur’aan about the garment becomes a reality.

In the Sunnah of Sayyidina Rasul-ullah is content, happiness, goodness and blessings and those who turn away from these by saying “It’s just a Sunnah!” never get to experience the sweetness of Eemaan (Faith).

There have been many (Ulamah and laymen) of the past who didn’t get married (for one reason or another) but we are not required to follow their example (no matter how great of personailities) they were we are required to follow Sayyidina Rasul-ullah who categorically declared that Nikah is His Sunnah!

There are millions around the world engaged in mindless (illegitimate) sex like wild beasts and remain unsatisfied, unhappy and their heart is devoid of peace, tranquillity and content and the society despite this “freedom” to engage in this mindless (illegitimate) sex is at an abyss so that’s a proof that this approach doesn’t work!
