It was my first experience with racism between muslims. Before that I naively believed that there was No racism in Islam. Took me about a year to recover from that situation. I basically have been reluctant to try again.

Assalamu alaikum bro. First you have to realize there is no Racism in Islam. But you will find many Muslims who do not follow Islam properly and behave in such bad manner. Just like you will find some muslims who drink alcohol, but it doesn't change the fact that alcohol remains forbidden in Islam.
