Miswak Chewing Stick to Replace the Toothbrush?

If you live in the Western world, you have probably never heard of the Siwak, or the Miswak, which is a twig obtained from the Peelu tree (or Arak tree). If you live in the Western world, you have probably never heard of the Siwak, or the Miswak. This is a chewing stick used instead of the traditional toothbrush.

People from the Muslim countries mainly use the Miswak, which is a twig obtained from the Peelu tree (or Arak tree).

Now, you might think that using some tree twigs instead of the modern toothbrush is a little bit old fashioned and quite ineffective. However, some recent study results show the exact contrary.

These studies have actually proved that the Miswak is excellent in combating gum disease, and that it is even more effective than the regular toothpaste.

In the westernized world, the Miswak is known as “chewing stick”, and it is not an item used on regular basis but rather something that is used only by people who believe in the power of alternative medicine.

For hundreds of years, right before the toothpaste and toothbrush were actually discovered, the ancient man used the chewing stick to cleanse the teeth.

In Muslim countries, the use of the Miswak has also got several religious connotations. It is said that the last messenger of Islam had used the Miswak quite frequently for cleaning his teeth, and he is the one who instructed his followers to adhere to the same practice because it is good for oral health.

The benefits of using the Miswak have been suggested by both scientific tests and by recordings in Islamic Literature.

Some of the most important benefits of the Miswak include:

* protects against gum disease
* kills successfully the germs and bacteria that reside within the mouth
* fights against the apparition of dental decay and plaque
* fights against bad breath
* it leaves a fresh scent in the mouth
* given the fact that the Miswak has got parallel bristles, it also acts as a natural flossing system and cleanses perfectly the area in between the teeth
* fights Xerostomia (dry mouth syndrome) by helping with saliva production

According to a study run by the famous Wrigley company, the mints that are combined with Miswak extract are actually 20 times more effective in destroying all the germs and bacteria from the mouth than the regular mints.

According to the test, the regular mints have managed to kill 3.6% of bacteria from the mouth, while the mints laced with Miswak destroyed as much as 60% of these bacteria.

Even more so, according to a study led by dentists at King Saud University using the Miswak has the same effects as brushing the teeth regularly using even the best toothpaste.

One of the main reasons for which the Miswak is so effective is also that using this wonder twig has plenty of antibacterial properties.
