Marriage is encouraged in general as it has a social dimension.
However for some marriage is discouraged, for some encouraged. If abstaning from marriage results in some sort of transgression, then marriage becomes obligatory, provided one can fullfeel the rights of marriage. It all depends on individual circumstance.
Few of prophets (SAW) companinons were unmarried.
It is realy up to individual.
