it appears to be a larger part of a strategy by the Ulema to save darul Uloom from the clutches of the British and to prevent them from targetting the madrassa..

Yes.. the governor was invited to the darul uloom and was adressed by Hazrat Hafiz Muhammed Ahmed sahab where he was titled by the Governor as Shams ul Ulema.. which he accepted as a part of thier strategy.. and returned it back when the turbulent period had settled..
No he was never given any Land by the British..nor did he side with them.. u can read it all in the above scans..

Dismissal of Hazrat Maulana Obaidullah sindhi sahab seems to be inline with the strategy of the Ulema.. he did have Ilmi diferrences with some of them .. which Hazrat Sindhi himself cites as not significant enough for him to isolate away from deoband..

Writes Hazrat Maulana Ghulam Rasool sahab Mehr who was a political analyst of the time..

" we do not find many people these days the Khuloos of whom we can rest our trust on..those who are ready to stand up to any given task.. selflessly withstanding hardships and giving sacrifices.. and a major concern for Hazrat Shaikh ul Hind was to protect the darul uloom from being targetted by the Government.."

the Roulette Commitee report states that even though he was dismissed from the madrassa.. it did not make any difference in his relationship with Hazrat Shaikh ul hind .. that he would meet Hazrat Shaikh ul Hind (rah) in the darkness of night outside the madrassa..

Hazrat Maulana sindhi sahab (rah) was a major suspect for the British Govt.. and they believed him to be a threat not only to the darul uloom but to all muslims.. as they felt he was the mastermind behind the Tahreek .. this incidentally helped to shift the focus away from Hazrat Shaikhul hind ..

Shaikul Islam Hazrat Maulana Hussain Ahmed Madani sahab (rah) writes in Naqsh e Hayat :

during his stay at Makkah Mu'azzama Hazarat Maulana Anwar Shah Kashmiri sahab wrote a letter to Hazrat sindhi (rah) saying that while at deoband owing to some misunderstanding i may have been a cause of hurt to you.. now i have nothing against you.. im hopeful that you shall forgive me..

hope u get the complete picture after reading thorugh the scans.. the book itself is interesting though ive only read a few parts..

duas..

wa assalam..
Jazak'Allah khayr, Dr. Sahab!

I am gonna share this with the guy I am having discussion with on Twitter. Will also invite him to this thread. Let's see how he responds to it.

Assalaam'aaleykum!
