Assalamu aleikum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuhu,

I do not know if this is the right subforum to ask the question.

An adopted person, does that change their names legally? Can call his adoptive parents "father" and "mother"? Do you have an obligation to always refer to them (at work, in your circle of friends, etc ...) as "adoptive parents"? ie If I should tell everyone who is adopted?

Allah guide us and grant us the Fridaws.

Legal adoption is not permissible. This means that one cannot change the lineage of an adopted child and substitute the names of his real parents with adoptive parents. The child should always be attributed to the real parents so that it becomes common knowledge amongst the people who the real parents are.
