I was born in Malaysia surrounded by mostly Malays who follow the Shafie method of praying. The problem Is both my parents r of Pakistani heritage. My mother(Allah bless her) of Pakistani heritage was also born I'm Malaysia. I have been taught prayers a little bit from everyone but not particularly frm my parents because we got separated when I was still little. I have been checking the videos on u tube and also from other sites and I am amazed at the difference of opinion. Now I am even more confused.

I only raise my hands for Takbir at the start before Sanaa (Subhanakallahumma......) I say Takbir during Ruku and prostration(Sujud) and in between my Sujud and standing up again for the second rakaat but I do not raise my hands anywhere except before my Sanaa. I only raise my hands again for Takbir in the third rakaat before Basmallah. Oh and I do fold my hands after Takbir

Can someone please tell me if I am doing it wrong. I have seen video instructions where by no Sanaa is been read. They go straight on to Al Fatihah. I don' t want to be punished for doing Bidaah

Raising hands in Salah before and after Ruku is Sunnah. In 4 Rakats salat, we can perform this sunnah 9 times more. Following hadith is showing how to perform this sunnah in Salat. U can consult with an Alim with this Hadith.

Bukhari :: Book 12 :: Volume 1 :: Hadith 706
Narrated Nafi':

Whenever Ibn 'Umar started the prayer with Takbir, he used to raise his hands: whenever he bowed, he used to raise his hands (before bowing) and also used to raise his hands on saying, "Sami a-l-lahu Liman hamida", and he used to do the same on rising from the second Rak'a (for the 3rd Rak'a). Ibn 'Umar said: "The Prophet used to do the same."
