Isn't there also a hadeeth that states to the nearest meaning that Muhammad SAW warned against the knowledgable munafiq? Would the deviant/misguided scholars described in the OP hadeeth, be the same thing as a knowledgable munafiq? They seem to have the same traits and same agenda.
