I'm surprised at this, Allah's last book to his people just isn't good enough for some.

What exactly is the point of Qur'an for such people?

Whenever someone asks to read or know about Islam, the automatic answer should be Quran, rather than some book written by man. Who can explain his religion better the creator or some puney human? I'd go with God.

But all im saying is, for a person with no knowledge of Islam, its best to give them the Qur'an and something to go with it, like a tafseer book or the seerah.

There's a better chance for that person to convert to Islam if he/she actually understands the Qur'an.

Quran and Seerah at the same time, it's a tried and tested formula bro, ask the converts, they convert mainly because of the Quran nothing else, obviously none of them would understand the whole thing but it wouldn't stop them from understanding the basic message of Islam.
I understand that many have converted just by reading the Qur'an, but that doesn't happen often (because Qur'an was revealed to a specific context) and those people may have already had some basic knowledge of Islam. Im just assuming that the lady who's interested in Islam has no knowledge or very little knowledge about Islam, so its best to back her up with the basics also.

Keep in mind that not every person who reads the Qur'an (especially a crude English translation) is going to instantly fall into sujood and proclaim the shahadah and recognize the Qur'an for the miracle that it is. Yes it does happen in some cases, but there are a lot more cases where the Qur'an has had no effect on the non-Muslim reader, and may have even made them more aggressive towards the deen. This happens because they have very little knowledge of Islam.

This is exactly what critics of Islam do. "wife-beating", "100 lashes" and "kill them wherever you see them" verses are all perfect examples of this. Do you think the people who make these claims actually understand the Qur'an at all, even after having read it fully. No, they dont, otherwise they would not be making such false claims against Islam.
