The NHS mostly uses and encourages doctors to prescribe generic drugs, and big companies have to go and fight court cases to try and get the NHS to use their drugs (see recent UK news coverage about Novartis and an eye drug).

Big pharma companies are FOR PROFIT organisation not charities. It takes them literally hundreds of millions of pounds to discover and bring a drug to market, brother a lot of the times this is maybe half a billion pounds for one single drug to be available in the market, and like I said these companies are not charities.

As it stands, doctors are very reluctant to prescribe branded meds. They are constrained in their own budgets. Very soon the patent of Lipitor will expire, watch how all the doctors switch their simvastatin patients to generic Lipitor (atorvastatin). so where would you say their devotion to their church will go then?

It is easy for people who don't know to buy the hype but a lot of the time it causes only hurt to the very same people or worse their children.
