I don't know if he is or isn't, but he is against intervention in Syria yet has been championing the cause for the Bahraini Shi'a. Now, we all know it is a mixed bag when it comes to Western intervention in anything related to Muslim countries because it always comes with a huge price tag (usually financial and cultural slavery), but to not say anything against Bashaar while disparaging the shaykh of Bahrain makes him closer to Shi'a political ideology than Sunni.
