"Wahhabi" has turned into a derogatory term for anyone who is opposed to bid'ah, either rationally (i.e. calling a spade a spade, a bid'ah a bid'ah) or irrationally (i.e. calling mubah/permissible and even sunnah actions as bid'ah). The mubtadi'oon (those that innovate in the deen) like to throw that tern around at anyone that doesn't agree with them.

Salafis are those that differ from Sunnis in two ways: they do not think it is necessary to follow a madhhab (ironically, many mubtadi'oon also do the exact same thing but get a pass) and they hold beliefs that are different from those held by the Sunni majority when it comes to, for example, the attributes of Allah . That is the basis of Salafism. Of course, there are dozens if not hundreds of different types of Salafis because once you say that following a madhhab is not necessary, then there are those who go to extremes while some stay moderate.
