There is no such agreed upon blanket prohibition on shrines among sunnis. It has existed for ages among sunnis too. And youll find a wide range of opinions on this issue approached from different angles. And scholars like Ibn Hazm did use the grave of the Prophet

and the two companions besides it, as proof for the legality of it.
