It is interesting that you suggest this. However, I’d like to add upon this. When an atheist denies the existence of God, what he also denies is that objective moral goods do indeed exist. That is to say, when God commands that killing is wrong, it is wrong objectively. Whether or not as an individual you believe it is wrong, you know this is an objective truth. Now, take the instance that a God doesn’t exist, then surely objective moral goods cease to exist and as humans we simply rely on subjective models of good. So, for example, to say that the Holocaust was objectively wrong is to say that it was wrong even though the Nazis who carried it out thought that it was right, and it would still have been wrong even if the Nazis had won World War II and succeeded in exterminating or brainwashing everybody who disagreed with them so that everyone believed the Holocaust was right.
Now with that in mind we can conclude the following deductive argument.
1. If God does not exist, objective moral values and duties do not exist.
2. Objective moral values and duties do exist.
3. Therefore, God exists.
Now one may respond to this argument using a popular dilemma known as the Euthyphro Dilemma It basically goes like this: Is something good because God wills it? Or does God will something because it is good?
However this argument runs in to some issues it seems to fail because there is a third alternative namely, God wills something because he is good. God’s own nature is the standard of goodness all our commands and moral duties are by a just and loving God.
I just wanted to add a bit more to this, so people can understand it a little better. That it isn’t as vague as ‘without God, man loses all senses of Good’ but in fact he loses objective moral goods.
