there is a great irony in this idea too as it is generally attributed to the French enlightenment philosopher Jean Jacques Rousseau who used to habitually wear Muslim clothes and was (according to some sources) suspected of having become a Muslim towards the end of his life.
Interesting idea. I had heard, here at SF itself, about Newton and Gibbon, but Rousseau is newer still.
an interesting chapter on him is included in the Influence of Islam on World Civilization by professor Ziauddin Ahmed.
